There are a lot of fantastic therapists out there, and we are all different in the way we connect, communicate, and challenge. Therapy is very much about finding the right fit for you!
I may be the right match for you if you like a therapeutic relationship which is open, honest, and dynamic – where you can say to me exactly what you are thinking about the work, the home practice tasks, or even about my style of working without any judgement; I don’t mind being told what you like and dislike – in fact, I encourage it. Here is what you can expect if you work with me:
Because of my Senior Lecturer experience, I also feel strongly about conveying psychological concepts in an engaging and clear manner; you may find me drawing pictures or pulling out worksheets to demonstrate specific therapy techniques to make tools of therapy practical and easy to grasp.
I work in a goal-focussed way. My main job is to get you where you want to go; so you can think of me as your personal trainer – you set the goals, and I will cheer and motivate you until we get there, together – even during the push-ups and the burpees (metaphorical, of course!).
I chose to specialise in CBT because it is a profoundly hopeful therapy. While we acknowledge your history, our focus remains on the future, giving you the practical answers and tools to make the changes you want in life today.
In addition to treating clear-cut anxiety and depression, my advanced training at the University of Oxford equipped me to work with highly complex or overlapping difficulties.
Additionally, I have a particular interest in existential themes – such as death anxiety, meaning, and isolation – though these may not always be part of our work together, as I follow your lead on therapy’s focus. If this is a specific interest of yours, we can explore anxiety around these areas together and work through it in a structured, supported way.
My work as a psychotherapist is regulated by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). This is the gold standard for accreditation in the UK and requires therapists to evidence high-quality training, complete a robust application process, and adhere to strict regulations of clinical practice. This is all done to protect the best interest of our clients and to ensure you receive the highest quality care.
You can search all accredited psychotherapists on the BABCP website.
Psychology and psychotherapy training programmes are also accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). The BPS sets out standards in training that are robust and mean that clinical education is of the highest standards.
Whilst therapy is always person-centred (adapted to meet your needs!), there are some universal structures of CBT you can expect from all therapists out there. These are:
My fee is £100 per session for private clients, although I do offer concessions for young adults (18-25), older adults (65+), people living with chronic health conditions, and single mothers; if you don’t fall in those categories, but may have difficulties paying fees, please get in touch and we can work out a rate that feels affordable.
I also work with some insurance companies: BUPA and VITA HEALTH. If you are insured through another company but would still like to arrange sessions with me, let me know and I may be able to liaise with the company.
